Elliot and the Pixie Plot The Underworld Chronicles Jennifer Nielsen Gideon Kendall Books
The first book, Elliot and the Goblin War, started with dire warnings to the reader to avoid the book. The narrator is insane, and one of many amusing characters in the book. For the second book, the narrator is toned down from insane to humorous. Still enjoyable, but I preferred the crazier version.
In the first book, Elliot's strange but supportive family is prominent. Here, they barely appear. The only other humans featured for more than a page in book two are the bully Tubbs, and the "ugly girl" Cami (briefly). The family and other humans are missed.
The main brownies and goblins reappear here, as well as a shapeshifter, pixies, and fairies. The pixies talk in the Valley Girl phrases, as popularized by Frank Zappa (and his daughter Moon Unit) in the 1982 album Ship Arriving Too Late to Save a Drowning Witch. Valspeak is nearly 30 years old now, so I'm not sure how funny it will be for teenagers, or even for people that were around in 1982.
The interactions between Elliot and Brownies, which make up the bulk of this short novel, are well done. Good enough to recommend the book, if you liked the first.
The book ends okay, but there are loose threads involving a yellow brick road, a demon, and an eclipse. The next total eclipse for the United States will happen August 21, 2017, but I'd expect the third book to come out before then.

Elliot and the Pixie Plot The Underworld Chronicles Jennifer Nielsen Gideon Kendall Books Reviews
This is a great book so don't get tricked by the beginning of the book because it is just saying it is also little scary
As the Librarian for a small school, I run across certain Authors that the children and I just love. Ms. Nielsen is one of those Authors! If you like this, you should read the "False Prince" series!
My son started reading the first book in 2011. We had to wait for the others but he LOVES these and spends more time reading than the usual time I request because he is so engaged.
Awesome just like the first book but better and I used to fink it couldn't get better more action if you want more of the first book read this
Great beginning reader story. Part of a 3 series adventure. Young readers will love characters. Book 1 lays good foundation.
During the promotional period that this book came out, I was able to download Elliot and the Goblin war on my for free. That book pretty much hooked my daughter, and I got the sequel for my daughter's birthday. I thinks she's found a new favorite author.
This book totally gets 5 stars because my 8yo daughter was giggling and cracking up over the creative names and puns and sarcasm and slap stick humor in this book.
Cleverly written with a wonderful plot.
P.S. I read the entire series and all 3 books are wonderful!
